Visit the Newton Free Library (330 Homer Street, Newton Centre) on Tuesday, February 3 for a Haiku Writing Workshop from 7-8PM.
Haiku is an ancient poetic form that conveys deep emotion and timeless truths, typically using only 17 syllables spanning three lines. Local poets Grey Held and Elizabeth Lund — two of the directors of Haiku Newton – will talk about the history of haiku, which originated in Japan, and introduce participants to a variety of image-related exercises and sensory activities to help spark creative ideas.
The group will have time to collaborate and to work on individual poems. No writing experience required. Just bring your open-mindedness and a willingness to explore and expand your literary skills.
