Highlights this week…

  • Public reading of the Declaration of Independence …on Wednesday at 10AM at War Memorial Auditorium in City Hall
  • Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission …discussing proposal to combine historic district commissions for Auburndale, Newtonville, and Newton Upper Falls

City Council

City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Land Use Committee will meet Tuesday regarding requests for:

  • Retaining wall of 4 feet or more in height at 335 Langley Road
  • 16 attached single-family dwellings, with dimensional and parking relief, at 93, 103 and 0 Thurston Road (A revised plan reducing the project to 14 units is under review.)

School Committee

School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.

Newton Public Schools are in a “soft close” through July 12.


Boards and Commissions

Parks & Recreation Naming and Signage Committee will meet Monday regarding notes from the Law Department meeting and next steps.

Urban Design Commission will meet Wednesday regarding sign permits for:

  • Brimmer and May School (50 Middlesex Road)
  • Massachusetts Surgery Center (447 Centre Street)
  • JL Plastic Surgery (447 Centre Street)
  • PureLuxe (118 Needham Street)

Conservation Commission will meet Thursday regarding:

  • Notice of Intent for an addition and deck expansion at 312 Woodcliff Road
  • Certificate of Compliance requests for
    • Pool, spa, and plantings at 580 Walnut Street
    • Demolition and duplex construction at 34 Brookside Avenue

Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission will meet Thursday regarding:

  • Certificate of Appropriateness for sidewalk and plaza repairs at Pettee Square (1215-1223 Chestnut Street)
  • Proposal to combine the Auburndale, Newtonville, and Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commissions into one commission

Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council will meet Thursday regarding:

  • Village Day retrospective and other event ideas
  • Clark Street speed humps
  • Village Enhancement Project

Other

Public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 18 at 10AM in the War Memorial Auditorium of City Hall.

Newton Planning and Development Department is accepting written comments until 5PM on Saturday, July 11 on a Notice of Intent to Request Release of Funds for the Housing Rehabilitation and Development Program.
