Hear, hear! The Fig City News podcast series!

Some readers have times in their day when they can listen but not read. Now they can use that time for catching up on local news instead of following the endless national news cycle.

Fig City News is now publishing audio podcast episodes of selected articles — sometimes roundups of top stories, sometimes standalone episodes on topics that warrant a deeper look. We’re still fine-tuning the format, so expect some experimentation, and please give us your feedback.

You can subscribe on Apple PodcastsSpotify, Overcast, Amazon Music, or your favorite podcast player.

Three episodes are available now:

  • What’s changed in Newton’s restaurant scene: A look at the openings, closures, and milestones for Newton restaurants over the past two and a half years
  • A conversation with incoming Mayor Marc Laredo: An interview with Newton’s new mayor
  • A roundup of our December 31 issue: Mayor Fuller’s outgoing reflections, top stories from 2025, and Aaron Goldman’s op-ed on his 20 years working with the late Setti Warren, Newton’s 30th mayor

A note on the format: These episodes use text-to-speech narration rather than a human voice. This lets us start by offering an audio option without the time and cost of traditional recording. We’d love your feedback as we figure out what works.

Find Fig City News in your podcast app of choice. If you like what you hear, a rating or review helps new listeners find us. Share it with friends and family who may want to stay connected to what’s happening in Newton while they’re walking, driving, working out, etc.
