Newton business notes: Newton small business wins $50K MassDevelopment grant

Rose Advanced Skin Care (d/b/a Advanced Beauty Lab) in Newtonville is one of 48 small businesses in Massachusetts to win a MassDevelopment Biz-M-Power Grant in the 2025 cycle. This award was for $50,000 toward the cost of a laser hair-removal system, which was delivered in January. MassDevelopment had intended to announce awards by September, but because of the high volume of applicants, awards were announced later in the year. This is the second time that the owner, Raquel Caceres, had applied for one of these grants, and she told Fig City News that she learned from her first attempt and her second application was much improved, with a better business plan. She added, “I am really, really happy with this award. The system is really good for me and my clients, and I could never get it without the help of this grant. This program is really great for small businesses.” MassDevelopment requires each recipient to co-invest at least 20% of the award in the capital project, and Caceres invested considerably more than that to acquire the Candela laser hair-removal system.
