City Council Meetings – Week of 4/5/2026

Financial Audit Advisory Committee will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 8 at 9AM. The agenda includes:

  • Discuss the FY25 Single Audit Report
  • Vote to send the FY25 Audit Report to the Finance Committee
  • Discuss plan for FY26 Audit
  • Questions/Concerns

Rules Subcommittee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 8 at 6PM. The agenda includes:

  • Review of City Council Rules — initial work plan and topics, with focus on:
    • 180-day requirement for docket items
    • Withdrawal of docket items

Public Safety & Transportation Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 205) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Discussion on improving compliance for violations of street sweeping regulations in Nonantum, including increasing fines and considering towing violators
  • Discussion and ordinance change to the City’s Overnight Parking Ban

Public Facilities Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Council Chamber, Room 207) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 8 at 7PM. The agenda uincludes:

  • Public Hearing: Eversource petition for a grant of location to relocate a pole on Smith Avenue
  • Public Hearing: National Grid petition for a grant of location to install and maintain gas main in Clarendon Streeton Clarendon Street
  • Discussion on the status of the Newton Highlands Working Group
  • Discussion and ordinance change to require new sidewalk installation only if the existing sidewalk is damaged during construction

Programs & Services Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Pre-budget planning discussion
  • Authorization to appropriate and expend $300,000 with $150,000 from RCN CATV License Fees and $150,000 from Verizon CATV License Fees to the Newton Communications Access Center, Inc.
  • Discussion about establishing a Commission to review compensation for the Mayor, City Council and School Committee
  • Review of Newton City Charter to include the evaluation of the structure, composition, role and duties of the City Council and the School Committee
