Someday you’ll hear someone ask, “Do you have any photos from that storm back in ’26?” Fig City News managed to get out and around in Newton Center to take some photos during that historic February 2026 storm. For future reference, here’s what it looked like. See these photos and more in Fig City’s Feb26 Winter Snow Storm gallery.
Sidewalks through Newton Centre varied from freshly cleared to one foot deep snow.

Union Street was deserted except for workers clearing the sidewalk outside Bank of America.

Of the several dozen businesses and restaurants in Newton Centre, only CVS, Tatte, Sandwich Works, and the Newton Center Gulf Station were open for the day. The MBTA Green Line continued to operate throughout the storm on a reduced schedule.

Tatte had food and desserts for those venturing out for the day.

Jeff and Mara were staffing the Sandwich Works on Beacon Street. Jeff stayed overnight in a hotel to feed plow drivers. Police officers visiting the shop reported that a plow had hit a cruiser on Needham Street.

George Audi drove into Newton at 6AM to open the Newton Center Gulf Station for the day to fuel plows and first responders. He reported visibility at that hour on Route 128 “was zero.”

The MBTA Green Line continued to operate throughout the storm, with snow up to the train entrance doors. A Brigham and Women’s Hospital Doctor boarded the train mid-day for his shift.
