Zoning & Planning Committee will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, February 23 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Discussion and amendments to the definition of two-family detached in Chapter 30, Zoning. See Planning Memo.
- Discussion and possible amendment to change effective date of 60% facade build out from March 1, 2026 to June 1, 2026. See Planning Memo.
- Discussion and possible amendments to enhance preservation of existing homes Chair’s Note: This item will include a presentation given by Councilor President Oliver and Vice Chair Wright.
- Reappointment of Councilor Susan Albright to Newton Affordable Housing Trust Fund
Finance will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, February 23 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Appointment of Ruthanne Fuller to the Horace Cousens Industrial Fund
- Request to transfer $1,500,000 from FY2026 Budget Reserve – Snow Removal, with $350,000 to Regular Overtime Account, and $1,150,000 to Contractors Account, to cover costs for snow removal hauling
- Request to transfer $150,000 from the Cooper Center Owners’ Project Contingency Account to the NEWC to be used for project closeout costs
Land Use will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, February 24 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:
- Requests for Special Permit/Site Plan Approvals to:
- Raise the roofline of the existing attic by 5.25 feet, allowing for habitable space and vertically extending nonconforming front setbacks at 55 Auburndale Avenue. See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.
- Construct additions to the front and rear of the dwelling that further increase the nonconforming FAR at 1445 Commonwealth Avenue. See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.

Traffic Council will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, February 26 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Restrict parking along portion of Holly Road near Beacon Street
- Add stop sign at intersection of Paulson Road at Beacon Street, southbound
- Add stop signs at end of Winona Street at Ware Road and at end of Regina Road at Ware Road
- Add stop signs at intersection of Ruthven Road at Park Street and
- Add stop sign at intersection of Ruthven Road at Waverley Avenue
- Add stop sign at intersection of Harrison Street at Lincoln Street, southbound
- Remove accessible parking space on Homer Street in front of Newton Free Library
- Reduce number of public parking spaces in Waltham Street Lot to accommodate changes in access to police parking lot
