The Newton Human Rights Commission is pleased to partner this year with the Celebration of Queer Culture (CQC) Planning Committee to host a shared Pride Month event in Newton on Wednesday, June 3 at 5-7:30PM at Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave, Newton Centre). Free and open to all.
That first gathering featured youth-led panels, queer history presentations, a resource fair, and music, art, and performances by queer young people.
Newton’s first Celebration of Queer Culture (CQC) was created in 2023 by high schoolers Rhiannon Esposito and Julia Dun Rappaport, who grew up searching for representation they rarely saw. They built CQC as the space they once needed—a place where queer youth could feel seen, heard, and loved. Human Rights Commission Pride Flag Raising
The City of Newton established the Newton Human Rights Commission in 1973 to ensure mutual understanding and respect among all persons in the City by promoting acceptance of diversity and combating discrimination. Every year for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the HRC raises the Pride flag and honors an individual or individuals for their contributions and commitment to the LGBTQ+ community in Newton.
