Join the Newton Free Library and WGBH for an Indie Lens Pop-Up! Hosted at the Library on Thursday, May 14 at 6:30pm, this event will feature a screening of the Independent Lens documentary The Grocery List Show, followed by a panel discussion about the many culinary traditions of Newton residents.
Hosted by Top Chef contender Chrissy Camba, The Grocery List Show is a trip to five bustling international grocery stores in America and the communities they serve. Special guests and food enthusiasts join Chrissy to shop for ingredients and cook a favorite family recipe, as they celebrate global food traditions over a shared meal.
The film is approximately one hour. Following the screening, the discussion will explore foodways in Newton, highlight the work of the Newton Food Pantry to provide culturally relevant food to Newton residents, and share recipes from the Library’s cookbook collection. We recommend eating dinner before this event – otherwise the film will make you hungry! – but the Library will have a few snacks from local groceries on hand.
