Recently, I was not able to access Fig City News’s Monday newsletter, which lists the weekly local government meetings and reports. Fortunately, the technical issue was fixed very quickly, but my temporary inability to access the newsletter made me aware of how much I have come to depend on Fig City’s Monday newsletter.
Yes, I am one of those people who likes to know what issues are coming in front of the City Council, City Commissions and Boards, and the School Committee. Fig City’s Monday issue is an invaluable resource for this. Having the weekly meetings and reports listed in one place, with links to the agendas and Zoom information, makes it so easy for me to follow the issues I am interested in, observe a meeting if I am so inclined, and read about any actions that have been taken.
Most of this information should be available on the Newton City website. However, it is often difficult to find, and typically not presented in the comprehensive way that Fig City presents this information. I understand that the City has convened a working group to improve the navigability and transparency of its website. I can only hope that in doing so, they look to what Fig City does every week to provide citizens like me with the information they need.
It is not an easy task to gather all the information included in the Fig City News Monday newsletters. I am sure it takes a good bit of someone’s time to do so. I wanted to let you know that your work is appreciated, and I thank you for providing this important service to the residents of Newton.
