Back by popular demand, acclaimed saxophonist and bandleader Christopher Pitts presents the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra in an electrifying concert showcasing an extraordinary lineup of internationally renowned jazz musicians on Tuesday, May 19 from 7:30-9PM at the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall (1000 Commonwealth Ave, Newton Centre).
This performance is a tribute celebrating the enduring genius of Thad Jones — trumpeter, composer, and arranger whose revolutionary big band writing continues to define the modern jazz orchestra. Last year’s performance was standing room only, and this year promises to be no different. Drawing on decades of tradition and an unwavering commitment to adventurous modern jazz, the CJO East delivers the no-holds-barred big band experience that has defined Pitts’ artistic vision since he founded the original Contemporary Jazz Orchestra in San Francisco in the 1990s.
