Newton Police release photos of suspect in vandalism of ‘We Stand With Israel’ signs

Newton Police on May 4 released photos of a suspect believed to have vandalized a group of “We Stand With Israel” signs between April 16-17.

The four incidents included bags of dog feces being left underneath the signs, police said.

According to police, the images, captured by a Fenno Road resident’s security camera on April 17 at 10:33AM, show a person walking a dog. Police said that although officers canvassed the area multiple days with the image, they could not identify the person in the photo.

During the canvass, officers identified a person in the area who owns a dog that is similar to the one in the photo, but police said that person was not the suspect.

The incidents were first reported to the public in a police press release on April 17. The four incidents took place in the area of Homer Street, Kenwood Road, Manemet Road, and Fenno Road, during daylight hours. The release did not indicate whether the “four incidents” referred to four signs, four locations, or both.

“In each case, small bags of dog feces were placed near the signs. One sign was removed from the ground and vandalized with what appeared to be a red substance,” the release said. Police later said the substance was believed to be similar to ketchup.

In the April 17 press release, police said officers were “conducting directed patrols and increasing visibility throughout the affected locations” after the incidents.

The Newton Police Department encourages anyone with information related to these incidents to contact the Community Services Bureau at 617-796-2103.
