City Council Meetings – Week of 8/2/2026

City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Finance Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, August 3 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Appointment of Ryan McGlothlin to the Financial Audit Advisory Committee, with a term ending July 13, 2029
  • Reappointment of Alexander B. Jablon to the Financial Audit Advisory Committee for a term to expire August 17, 2029
  • Appointment of Christopher Brezski to the John C. Chaffin Educational Fund
  • Request to accept and expend a grant of $19,500 from AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) for a design competition to make available Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) “permit ready” plans
  • Request to accept and expend a grant of $218,708 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts – Community Compact Municipal Fiber Grant Program to provide repair and maintenance of the City’s fiber optic network
  • CPC recommendation to appropriate $232,000 in Community Preservation Act funding from Unrestricted Prior Year Reserves to the Planning & Development Department for a grant to the Public Buildings Department for the cupolas and windows at City Hall

Land Use Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, August 4 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Special permit/site plan approval to raze the existing building and construct a four-story commercial building with underground parking, to allow four stories and up to 48 feet in height, restricted end stalls, a reduced maneuvering aisle, to waive 47 parking stalls, and to extend the nonconforming front setback at 74 Needham Street.     Chair’s note: The petitioner is unable to present at this meeting; the public hearing will be opened and the item held until August 25.
  • Special permit/site plan approval to construct multi-story rear and side additions including living space and a two-car attached garage, exceeding FAR, at 43 Newell Road. Petition documents. Planning Memo.
  • Special permit/site plan approval to construct a 1.5-story detached ADU with reduced side and rear setbacks and oversized dormers which exceeds the maximum FAR and includes oversized dormers within 3 feet of the wall plane intersection at 2 Rowe Street. Petition documents. Planning Memo.
  • Discussion with the Inspectional Services Department and Law Department on how the City handles consistency rulings

Public Safety & Transportation Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 205) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, August 5 at 7PM. The agenda includes:

  • Discussion and ordinance change to the City’s Overnight Parking Ban
