Traffic Council – 11/20/2025

The Traffic Council approved the following (see the report and watch the meeting video):

All items approved can be appealed through the close of business on December 10, 2025.

Jacobs Terrace at Hartman Road (Ward 8) (5-0) The Council approved the installation of a stop or yield sign at the T-intersection to clearly establish right-of-way, citing visibility issues and driver confusion that created safety concerns for vehicles entering Hartman Road.

Beacon Street near St. Jude Gate (Ward 7) (5-0) The Council approved removal of four parking meters and establishment of a “No Parking” zone on the north side of Beacon Street between the Saint Jude Gate and Hammond Street, reversing a prior meter installation to address congestion, curb access, and pedestrian safety.

Bristol Road (Ward 3) (5-0) The Council approved a permanent “No Parking, Any Day, Any Time” restriction on the west side of Bristol Road from a point north of the Commonwealth Avenue carriageway to the carriageway itself, improving access and safety on this narrow residential street.

Terrace Avenue at Duncklee Street (Ward 6) (5-0) The Council approved installation of a stop or yield sign at this T-intersection to clarify right-of-way and reduce neighborhood traffic conflicts.

Dalton Road (Ward 6) (5-0) The Council approved official parking regulations establishing a tow zone and prohibiting parking on both sides of Dalton Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Sundays and holidays, formalizing restrictions that had previously been in effect on a trial basis.

Centre Street south of Bowen Street (Ward 6) (5-0) The Council approved amendments to the Traffic and Parking Regulations to formally incorporate long-standing parking meters already installed along this section of Centre Street, aligning on-street conditions with the City’s official regulations.

The Committee voted to hold the following items:

Langley Road (Triangle) Municipal Parking Lot (5-0) The Council voted to hold a request to extend the ongoing trial configuration of the Triangle Lot, including the Newton Centre Plaza and adjacent western parking rows, with reevaluation scheduled through October 31, 2026. Held for long-term trial.

Lyman Street parking and circulation changes (Ward 6) (5-0) The Council voted to hold a proposal to modify parking on the north side of Lyman Street, convert the street to one-way westbound travel, and install payment kiosks, pending further refinement. Held for long-term trial.

Triangle Lot employee parking relocation (Ward 6) (5-0) The Council voted to hold a proposal to relocate reserved employee parking spaces within the Langley Road Municipal Parking Lot as part of the broader Triangle Lot trial review.

Langley Road municipal parking lot (Ward 6) (5-0) Eliminate the left run prohibition from Beacon Street. Drivers frequently ignore the no-left turn sign. The no-left turn sign has been removed for a trial period.
