Christmas tree collection will run from January 5-16. Collection occurs on your regular trash collection day.
Note – this schedule will be disrupted if a major snowstorm occurs during this time.
Place your un-decorated (natural) Christmas tree out to the curb by 7am on your collection day during this two week window. All decorations and lights must be removed and trees cannot be in a plastic bag. Greens from wreaths can also be collected with the trees if the sprigs are pulled from the wire or plastic framing and placed in a neat pile or bundled with twine. The trees and greens will be chipped into mulch.
Newton residents also may drop off Christmas trees (and yard waste) at the Resource Recovery Center, located at 115 Rumford Ave, in the yard waste section behind the cardboard compactor.
While we highly encourage residents to get their tree out during the first two weeks of January, we understand that time frame does not work for everyone. If you miss the Christmas tree pickup, please place a missed yardwaste pickup request using 311 or by calling Customer Service at 617-796-1000. Alternatively, residents can wait until April and prepare the tree according to yard waste guidelines (see above).
