Traffic Council Report – 3/19/2026

The Traffic Council met on Thursday, March 19. See the report, Traffic Council Actions document, and meeting video.

Approved Approved items can be appealed through the close of business on April 8, 2026.

  • Add resident permit parking on the north side of Everett Street between Sumner Street and Dalton Road (5-0). Currently, there is a 2-hour parking limit.
  • Parking zone adjustments on Walnut Street between Lakewood Road and Commonwealth Avenue, adjusting the permitted parking zones on both sides (5-0)
  • Stop sign on Ellison Road southbound at Fenno Road (5-0) Resident request approved because the intersection is a T stop with blocked sight lines.
  • EV charging spaces in Hartford Street Public Parking Lot in Newton Highlands — formalizing four newly installed EV chargers in the Traffic & Parking Regulations (5-0)

No Action Necessary

  • Parking prohibition on the north side of Greenwood Street between Lion Drive and Dudley Road during school hours (5-0). Student parking makes 2-way traffic difficult, especially at the curve. There were concerns about emergency vehicles getting through. Held for a long-term trial of the following: No parking at all times, south side, Greenwood Street between Lion Drive and Dudley Road. No parking, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., School Days, north side, Greenwood Street, Dudley Road, and Lion Drive.
  • Parking prohibition on the east side of Walnut Street from Fenno Road to a point 150 feet north of Fenno Road (5-0). Discussed with the above item.

Held

  • Parking and safety concerns on Greenwood Street between Lion Drive and Dudley Road — held for long-term trial: no parking at any time on the south side; no parking 8 AM–4 PM on school days on the north side (5-0)
  • Stop sign on Fenno Road eastbound in front of 62 Fenno Road (5-0). Residence request for speed control. City staff stated that stop signs are never approved for speed control and recommended assessing Fennor Road for the city’s traffic calming program.
