Newton Free Library: Traditional Chinese Instrument Demonstration, May 11

Visit the Newton Free Library (330 Homer Street, Newton Centre) on Monday, May 11, from 7–8 PM for an interactive Traditional Chinese Instrument Demonstration. Discover the sounds and history of traditional Chinese instruments—and try them firsthand.

In this interactive demonstration, Shirley Wong of Boston Dulcimer and Drums will showcase a variety of instruments, demonstrate how they are played, and invite audience members to join in. Adults and children of all ages are encouraged to try the Chinese hammered dulcimer, drums, and more.

Shirley Wong is a West Newton–based musician and educator specializing in the Chinese hammered dulcimer and traditional percussion. She is the founder of Boston Dulcimer and Drums, where she teaches students of all ages and brings Chinese music to libraries, schools, and community spaces throughout Greater Boston.
