LGBTQ+ Newton presents the Pride Month Screening & Reception on Saturday, June 21 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at West Newton Cinema (1296 Washington St, West Newton).
It’s not easy being a drag queen in the outback! Resplendent in flamboyant ball gowns, looking down over the vast red Australian desert: for three showgirls it was the dream of a lifetime, a four week cabaret engagement in Alice Springs. The problem is simply getting there intact, along with their battered, pink tour bus, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. With over-the-top, Academy Award-winning costume design and a fabulous soundtrack of camp classics including Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and ABBA’s “Mamma Mia,” The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is a hilarious, vivacious comedy that celebrates community.
After the Screening guests are invited to stay for a reception featuring light refreshments, conversation, and an opportunity to celebrate the stories, experiences, and contributions of LGBTQ+ people across generations. Whether you’re attending with friends or coming to meet new people, this afternoon offers a welcoming space to reflect on the film, share perspectives, and build meaningful connections.
Co-sponsored by Waltham Pride and OutstandingLife, in partnership with West Newton Cinema.
