City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.
Public Safety & Transportation Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, July 29 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Requesting a new public auto license for Fredik, LLC.
Chair’s note: the petitioner has requested to withdraw this petition without prejudice. - Discussion on the City’s response to ICE, to:
- Review who will respond and how the City of Newton will act should Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) enter the city,
- Ensure established procedures are properly followed so that all individuals who live and/or work in Newton are protected from ICE engaging in door-to-door actions, harassment, or the unlawful detention of residents and workers, and
- Reaffirm the City’s continued adherence to its Welcoming City Ordinance.

Traffic Council will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, July 30 at 7PM. The items scheduled for discussion on the agenda include the following requests:
- An accessible parking space in front of 60 Lincoln Road (Newton Commission on Disability approved on 4/13/26)
- Change the parking regulations along a short stretch on the north side of Beacon Street near Boston College from “Live parking, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.” to “Live bus parking only, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,” to accommodate vehicles dropping off and picking up students at the Campus School
- Designation of Jasset Street between Faxon Street and California Street as a Safety Zone, with a posted speed limit of 20 mph
- Consider adding a stop sign at the intersection of Larchmont Avenue at Chestnut Street, westbound (northern intersection), and at the intersection of Larchmont Avenue at Chestnut Street, westbound (southern intersection); this item does not request stop signs on Chestnut Street itself, only at the ends of Larchmont Avenue
- Change the parking regulations on Brae Burn Road from “Prohibited, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., both sides, entire length” to “Prohibited, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., both sides, entire length except by resident permit”
- Remove up to 4 parking spaces on Florence Street, consistent with Condition 22 of Council Order #356-22 (on behalf of Sunrise Senior Living)
- Examine and possibly create a parking prohibition on the south side of Charlesbank Road, just to the west of St. James Street, to eliminate vehicle parking too close to the intersection
