City Council
City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.
Finance will meet on Monday regarding:
- Appointment of Ryan McGlothlin and reappointment of Alexander B. Jablon to the Financial Audit Advisory Committee
- Appointment of Christopher Brezski to the John C. Chaffin Educational Fund
- $19,500 grant from AARP for a design competition to make ADU “permit ready” plans available
- $218,708 grant from the Community Compact Municipal Fiber Grant Program for repair and maintenance of the City’s fiber optic network
- CPC recommendation to appropriate $232,000 in Community Preservation Act funds for the cupolas and windows at City Hall
Land Use will meet on Tuesday for a discussion on how the City handles consistency rulings with the Inspectional Services and Law Departments and will address requests for Special Permits to:
- Raze the existing building and construct a four-story commercial building with underground parking at 74 Needham Street (public hearing to be opened and held until August 25)
- Construct multi-story rear and side additions with an attached two-car garage, exceeding FAR, at 43 Newell Road
- Construct a 1.5-story detached ADU with reduced setbacks and oversized dormers, exceeding FAR, at 2 Rowe Street
Public Safety & Transportation will meet on Wednesday to discuss a proposed ordinance change to the City’s Overnight Parking Ban.

School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.

Planning & Development Board will meet on Monday for a working session on a proposed amendment to the subdivision plan at 132 Homer Street (Lots 2 & 3, 60 & 61 Chapin Road).

- Certificate of Appropriateness to replace gas-powered street lamps with solar LED street lamps at 25, 34, 58, & 75 Prescott Street
- Recommendation on a proposal to combine the Auburndale, Newtonville, and Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commissions into one
