  • Newton Public Schools …on “soft close” June 29 through July 12
  • Traffic Council …discussing parking plans during Newtonville Commuter Rail Station construction

City Council

City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Traffic Council will meet on Wednesday regarding:

  • Special Speed Regulations for Cherry Street, Lake Avenue, North Street, Tremont Street, Otis Street, Reservoir Avenue, Webster Street, Tyler Terrace, Paul Street, Mill Street, Gordon Road, Elliott Street, Derby Street, Auburn Street, Valentine Street, Parker Street, Crafts Street, Lexington Street, Grove Street, Brookline Street, Walnut Street, Dedham Street, Watertown Street, and Washington Street
  • Long-term trial for temporary changes to parking and traffic regulations on streets near the Newtonville MBTA Commuter Rail station to facilitate reconstruction of the station
  • Motions for No Action Necessary on six previously held items involving removal of regulatory speed limits on Watertown Street, Mill Street, Washington Street, Tremont Street, Cherry Street, and Crafts Street

School Committee

Newton Public Schools will be on “soft close” June 29 through July 12.

School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.

Franklin School Construction Community Update meeting will be held on Tuesday regarding updates on current construction progress and look-ahead schedule.


Boards and Commissions

Newton Fair and Affordable Housing Partnership will meet on Tuesday regarding:

  • Presentation on 1314 Washington Street by Beacon Communities
  • Follow-up items including Rent Control Forum, Newton Affordable and Accessible Rental Housing Inventory, Lottery/Lease Up Discussion, Mitigation and Permitting Fees, and Opportunities to Raise Funds for Affordable Housing
  • Housing Advocacy discussion including Fair Housing Issues and Support of Housing Legislation
  • Future meeting topics including Expiring Use, Newton Thrive Program, Long-Range Planning, and meeting with Newton Housing Authority Executive Director

Designer Selection Committee will meet on Wednesday regarding review and selection of RFQ respondents to provide LSP on call services.

Newtonville Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday regarding:

  • Request for Certificate of Appropriateness to replace gas-powered street lamps with solar LED street lamps at 25, 34, 58, and 75 Prescott Street
  • Discussion of a proposal to combine the Auburndale, Newtonville, and Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commissions into one commission
