Finance Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, April 13 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Transfer of $3,000 from the Accessibility Parking Fines Account for Interpretive Services at future Commission on Disability events
- Authorization to expend $20,000 for the full and final settlement of Zoe Ariana Fort v. City of Newton
- Authorization to appropriate and expend $300,000 from RCN and Verizon CATV License Fees to the Newton Communications Access Center, Inc.
- Authorization to petition the General Court for special legislation to issue Pension Obligation Bonds or Notes to fund all or a portion of the unfunded pension liability of the City’s retirement system
Zoning & Planning Committee will meet in person (City Hall, Room 204) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, April 13 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Request for discussion and possible amendments to enhance the preservation of existing homes
- Zoning ordinance change in Chapter 30 to allow raised beds in the front and rear setback under certain conditions
Land Use Committee will meet in person (City Council Chambers, Room 207) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, April 14 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
- Request to allow three stories, to exceed height and associated parking waivers at 1100-1102 Beacon Street. See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.
- Request for a special permit to allow 16 attached single-family dwellings, with associated dimensional and parking relief at 93, 103 and 0 Thurston Road. See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.
Public Safety & Transportation Committee will meet in person (City Council Chambers) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, April 15 at 7PM. This is a special meeting. The agenda includes:
- Discussion on the City’s response to ICE
Traffic Council will meet in person (City Hall, Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, April 16 at 7PM. The agenda includes requests to:
- Restrict parking on Berwick Road to one side only, May 1 to October 31 or year-round
- Remove the 35 MPH regulatory speed limit along a portion of Watertown Street
- Remove the 30 MPH regulatory speed limit on Mill Street
- Remove the official 35 MPH speed limit on Washington Street between Hunnewell Avenue and the Boston City Line
- Ask MassDOT to remove the official 35 MPH speed limits on Tremont Street between Hibbard Road and Waverley Avenue, in both directions
- Reduce the speed limit on Cherry Street from 30 MPH to 25 MPH between River Street and Waltham Street
- Remove the 30 MPH regulatory speed limit on Crafts Street
The chair expects to entertain a motion to vote No Action Necessary on the following items:
- Eliminate the left-turn prohibition from Beacon Street eastbound into the Langley Road municipal parking lot
- Ask MassDOT to rescind the 35 MPH section of the Special Speed Regulation on Beacon Street from Chestnut Street to the entrance of Cold Spring Park
- Trial to modify parking regulations on streets near Brown and Oak Hill Middle Schools to facilitate solar canopy projects
- Trial to modify parking regulations on streets near the Education Center to facilitate the solar canopy project
- Ask MassDOT to rescind the 35 MPH regulatory speed limit along Washington Street between Lowell Avenue and Chestnut Street
- Ask MassDOT to rescind the 35 MPH section of the Special Speed Regulation on Woodward Street, in both directions
